I Do Not Need Any Help, I am a Strong Black Independent Woman

How many times have we as Black women made that statement? Due to us being raised by a single parent or having to fend for ourselves at an early age, then we feel like we do not need help. I am very guilty of saying that. I have learned that we do need help. Let me give you an example from my life.

The first example is having your first child. We know that children do not come with instructions. We may ask our mother or our best friend about their experience. I know for me my mother was there every step of the way. One day my daughter would not stop crying and my mother said, “Give her to me.”

I responded, “No it’s my baby.”

She walked out of the room and I realized that I hurt her feelings. I had just had the baby and I was like 21 so I figured I knew what to do. Changing her did not work. Giving her the bottle did not work. Burping her did not work.

So I wrote a note to my mother and slid it under the bedroom door. Then I went to the bathroom. She came into the room. When I came out of the bathroom, she had the baby. I apologized to her. Do you know the baby was quiet, then? So from that point on, I knew that I needed help. I was glad to give her to Mama from that point on. So when I had my second child I was better equipped as a mother from watching my mother. I have learned that I cannot do it all by myself.

We need help in our everyday lives. We do not have all the answers. Do you know what it takes to run a business from A to Z? Some of us do not. We seek advice from other women or maybe the SBA or maybe a business coach.

What I am saying is do not be afraid to ask for help. You can be independent and still need help. You have not been equipped to know about everything. The only person that knows everything is God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

God gave us talents and expects us to use them; not bury them. Do not be afraid to ask for help. Asking for help can excel your talent and bless someone else. So, do not hide it let it shine to the mountain tops.
