How I find balance when my life is busy

There are times when my life is peaceful and calm. I just coast along. Doing what I want to do, or doing nothing at all. Life is well. Each day is calm.

But then there are times like this month when my life is on warp speed. I feel like somebody propelled me out of a torpedo.. I am super busy at work. In case you didn't know, I work for the Girl Scouts and I am in the Product Program Department. That means cookies, cookies, cookies. Handling cookie booths is one of my projects. And it is is during this time of the year that we work 6 or 7 days a week. If not physically in the office, then available by phone, text or email. My cell phone is always close by in case there is a need.

During this time I am mentally and physically tired. I scramble through the day taking phone calls, dealing with booth issues and helping to fill cookie troop orders. It is a very busy time. Yesterday, even with the help of 3 volunteers, I missed lunch and racked up 6000 steps between 9-3. So during this time I have to rely on some things that I do that keeps me balanced and sane during my time of craziness.

Like me, I'm sure some of you have those times when your life is just buzzing along and you feel like you are being pulled in many directions. I hope my tips will help you get off that hamster wheel.

Meditation and prayer are my staples. They are the main things that calm me down when I feel myself about to go there. I start my morning before I get out of bed with a meditation by Deepak and Oprah. This centers and slows me down. It stops my mind from racing and worrying about all of the things I need to do, or wondering if I forgot to do something.

After my meditation, I put on quiet worship music. It is instrumental and soothing. While I study my daily devotion and scriptures I feel the peace. This give me a sense of calm and I feel ready to conquer the world. Not in my strength, but in my Father's. During my prayer, some written and some said out loud, I ask for favor to get through whatever the day brings my way.

Sleep is the next must have for me during this time. If you know me, you know that I don't need much sleep. I am usually a night owl and an early riser. But, when my life is crazy, I listen to my body, and I go to sleep when it gives me the signal. Last week, I was asleep by 8:00 p.m. a couple nights. I don't worry about what needs to get done. It will get done later. Sleep builds me up and gives me the fuel I need for the next day.

Stretching and doing a few exercises helps me to relax. At this time I'm usually tired from working with cases of cookies, so a good stretching routine helps and relaxes me.

Food is a must. I try to have little snacks with me, so that during the day I can nibble on something. If not, then I pig out on something unhealthy that usually makes me feel sluggish.

Solitude is also a must. Sometimes I just have to get in a quiet corner, take a few deep breaths, say a quick prayer, and repeat my affirmations.

I found these things out by trial and error. Hopefully one or some of them will help you out when your life is moving at warp speed ahead.
